Random blaghness...

Until The Day...

I wrote a new song yesterday...partially inspired by my new instrument the Suzuki Omnichord OM-84 modified my Ben Houston at Folktek. I plan on writing more for this instrument!

Until The Day

A film of the ocean.
Television of clouds.
To think is to stop.
Look North but dream South.
There is no silence, just the illusion of being alone.

You can never turn it off when you find it together.
Until the day begins to darken.
I strike matches at the myth but it doesn't burn.
It illuminates.

Living in the world, but not of the world.
My stillness sleeps.
My stillness shakes
An opulent and gilded single-minded smile.

You can never turn it off when you find it together.
Until the day begins to darken.
I strike matches at the myth but it doesn't burn.
It illuminates.

Full Denim Jacket...

Patron Saint of Lost Indie Causes

Patron Saint of Lost Indie Causes

My indigo armor. My urban shield. I will not leave home without it. In fact all my super powers are wicked away without it...a mere mortal with a slight chill I would be. It will not stop bullets, but it will stop negative feng shui ninjas from slicing and dicing me. The too-cool-for-school coalition powers of geek perception cannot penetrate my cotton prophylactic with nonoxynol ten. Killing their judgment on contact. Oh yes I love my jean jacket. We are one. It will never leave me as long as I wash it enough that it can't walk on its own and run away.

Jetsam...

Jetsam is part of a ship, its equipment, or its cargo that is purposefully cast overboard or jettisoned to lighten the load in time of distress and that sinks or is washed ashore.

Ideas...cast and waylaid...trying to float on your back without sinking...relax...relaaaax...don't stiffen...let go...give in to the sway of the water...nope...your legs are still stiff damn it...you'll sink that way...clear your mind...stop the humming...yea...that's it...better...floating.....flooooat...float to the shore and find a nice comfy couch to lay on.

These are memories of my Pop trying to teach me how to float on my back in the ocean. I was 10. I still can't float on my back.

Anywhere...et al...

Winter comes. Work as an engineer/producer slows to a maple-syrupy drool. It is the time to create. Keep working. Keep on keeping on.

I have no direction or intent at this early stage of my writing process. This song came out. The soundscape chose itself. I am not gonna tell my song what to do, I am just gonna let 'em do what they do.

Anywhere

I return. I hear the thrushes sing, they take me anywhere out of this world. There is more than one sun, take the wrapper off, it's better that way, it takes me anywhere out of this world.

To be or to become. Explainable, unattainable love.

Old enough to forget, but young enough to want to remember, anywhere out of this world. I'll begin and I'll begin to begin again, anywhere out of the world. Take me anywhere out of this world.

I don't know what this song means to me yet. I write, record, and mix fast enough to feel like a hit and run victim. I can't give you a description of the car that hit me, or why they did. Maybe a few digits of the license plate. All I know is I feel worked over and need a little time to heal to get hit again later. Maybe we'll become friends. Maybe I will never see this song again. That is why I have a fast trigger finger on my sound camera...

Finally...

This is a little shout out to my friend Matt Lynott. He finally finished and released his self-titled solo album. Matt has been widely known for his awesome drumming...he was Hemi Way Truckee in our Truckee Brothers band, he plays drums on all of my Atom Orr songs, The White Buffalo, Elgin Park, Privet, Gary Jules, Hills Like Elephants first album, Years Around the Sun, The Spells, Goblin Cock, The Jade Shader...you get my drift. Anyway he plays guitar, piano and sings too.

I jumped in to help him with some guitar, baritone, bass and the button-pressing-knob-turning-slider-sliding stuff. Here is a link to his album on Soundcloud. If you like Sergio Leone, Quintin Tarantino, and Nick Drake...you'll like this album. Maren Parusel sang a song in French for him too on "Haute Mer".
